Questions? We've got answers.
Will it work on my phone?
Most iPhones from XR/XS onward, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer support eSIM. Use the checker above, or dial *#06#: if you see an EID, you're good. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked.
Can't I just buy a SIM when I land?
Not anymore, for most visitors. Since Peru's anti-fraud rules (Nov 2025), foreigners can only buy a SIM in person at a carrier store, with a fingerprint check against immigration records and a Peruvian residency card (Carné de Extranjería or CPP). A tourist passport isn't enough, so airport and kiosk SIMs are out. An eSIM you buy before you fly is the simple fix. Sources (Spanish): OSIPTEL, Infobae, Jan 2026.
Can I make calls and send texts?
Yes, through apps over your data: WhatsApp, FaceTime, iMessage, Zoom, Google Meet, Telegram and friends. It's a data-only eSIM, so regular phone calls and SMS to Peruvian numbers aren't included.
Do I get a Peruvian number?
No, there's no phone number. Your WhatsApp and iMessage keep working on your usual number. Keep your home SIM switched on (with its roaming off) if you need bank SMS codes.
Which networks does it use?
Claro's 4G network in Peru, with strong coverage in cities and tourist areas. Remote treks and deep jungle get patchy on every carrier, so download offline maps.
What does "Unlimited" mean exactly?
Unlimited plans give you 1 GB per day at full 4G speed, then keep you online at 512 kbps until your allowance resets the next day. 512 kbps is fine for WhatsApp messages and voice notes, maps, email and Uber; video calls and HD streaming will be slow until the reset. No surprise bills, ever. Heavy user? A data pack gives you every gigabyte at full speed.
Unlimited or a data pack?
Short trip, lots of maps and messaging: Unlimited. Lots of video calls, uploads or working online: a data pack (all full speed, valid 30 days). Not sure? The 10 GB Condor Flight covers most two-week trips.
Can I share data with my travel buddy?
Hotspot usually works, but it shares the same allowance: on Unlimited, tethering eats into your 1 GB/day at full speed. Fair-use rules from the network apply.
When does my plan start?
Only when your eSIM first connects to a network in Peru. So buy it and install it at home, days or even weeks before your trip. Buying or installing early doesn't use up a single day. The clock starts when you land and connect, like a chaski starting his leg of the relay.
I'm already in Peru. Can I still get one?
Yes! Buy it right here, then scan and install on any Wi-Fi: Lima's Jorge Chávez airport has free Wi-Fi, or use your hotel's or a café's. You'll be online in minutes, and your plan starts when the eSIM connects in Peru, same as always. Installing before you fly is still the easiest route, because you land already online.
How do I get from Lima airport to my hotel?
Take an official taxi from the counters inside the arrivals hall (level 1) of Jorge Chávez's new terminal: Taxi Green, Taxi Directo or Taxi 365, with executive cars from CMV and Mitsoo. Finding your Uber driver at the airport can be very hard, so we don't recommend it there. Skip offers from people in the arrivals hall.
My trip got cancelled 😢
So sorry! If your eSIM never connected to a network in Peru, write to us within 30 days of purchase and we'll give you a full refund, even if you already installed it. Once your plan has started in Peru, it's non-refundable unless the service is faulty. Details are in our Refund Policy.
